Destin Businesses Cleared in Sales Tax Audit Spot Checks
A Florida Department of Revenue official said Destin will not be targeted in spot-check audits tied to lower than expected penny sales tax returns. Jewelers, clothing and fur stores, theaters and bars showed low returns, but local merchants and officials say cheating is not widespread. Errors in taxable sales reports and cash businesses’ handling of the new rate may explain some discrepancies.
