Gulf Power Agrees To Lower Lines Near Destin Airport
Okaloosa County commissioners won a commitment from Gulf Power to lower lines at the south end of Destin Airport runway by 15 feet. The utility will re engineer supports remove the top static line and bury it underground within 60 to 90 days. The move follows April plane crash linked to the low lines and FAA guidance.

Health Ordinance Delayed in Okaloosa County
Okaloosa County commissioners postponed action on a health department approval ordinance for restaurant building plans. Sanitarian Doug Sims said the health department would ensure state codes are met before county permits. The measure is set for May 3 in Shalimar after review by the county attorney and planning officials.

Gulf Power and Okaloosa County Civil Defense offer Handicap-Evac forms in electric bills to identify elderly and disabled residents needing evacuation help during hurricanes. Youth Killed In Car-Bike Mishap On 98
Destin youth 16 dies after bicycle struck from behind on Highway 98 near Airport Road. Geraldine Gillman 39 of Santa Rosa Beach drives eastbound about 45 mph. Haynes rode without lights wearing dark clothing. Vehicle carried him about 221 feet. no charges filed. Okaloosa County's 10th traffic fatality of the year.
