County to Pump Water Into DOT System to Relieve Flooding

Okaloosa County crews will pump standing floodwater from Quail Circle in Destin’s Quiet Wood suburb into the DOT system via overground pipes near Airport Road and Quail Circle. Engineer Dave Heinrich says 24 hour work to lower water levels aims for 3-4 days. Residents report thousands in damage and health concerns as flooding persists, with several homes below street grade.

DER Says Discharge Didn't Harm Old Pass Lagoon

Water samples near the Highway 98 Airport Road intersection show fecal coliform levels far below DER standards. Five locations were tested by Jim Weeks with counts ranging from under 10 to 100 organisms per 100 milliliters, well within limits of 800. DOT engineer Ron Picion and Weeks both expressed satisfaction with water quality despite a 4 inch storm drain discharge from DWU.
