The stalled Ward Harden Florida contest parallels Indiana's disputed District 5 race where two recounts favored the Republican challenger McIntyre but the U S House refused to seat him. Veterans study paints brighter postwar life for Vietnam vets
A Washington Post-ABC News survey finds most Vietnam veterans have reentered mainstream life. Eight of ten are married, 90 percent have children, and many own homes or earn higher incomes. Yet issues like alcoholism, drug abuse, and civilian adjustment remain, amid a broader story of healing and reconciliation. President Reagan’s aide Speakes blocks Oval Office Truman Medal TV coverage, a move echoed by Sen. Helms dictating network broadcasts.

Toll notions spark talk on bridges and growth in Okaloosa
A columnist compares Turnpike and BeeLine tolling, estimates potential $4 million yearly from Brooks Bridge, and weighs toll options for Okaloosa projects. He argues Brooks Bridge remains free, while a West Destin span or White Point Piney Point bridge could carry tolls to support a new airport plan tied to Buddy Runnels’ Freeport move.
