Destin said most favored court action after a council vote expressing desire to carry out the will of the people. Woodward noted sending the issue to court would have been a tough battle. The remark followed continued coverage on page tA.
Pam Giganti, 16, daughter of Lt. Col. George R. Giganti, was crowned Miss Destin 1985 at the Holiday Inn Holidome. She receives college scholarships and savings bonds, with Marlo Lusby as first runner up and Maree Lynn O'Steen as second runner up. A Miss Photogenic award went to Carol Walls.
City Manager Jack Dorman, 39, started work at Destin City Hall tackling calls and paperwork focusing on state revenue sharing and boundary issues. He compared Destin to Culpeper, Va, noting similarities but highlighting unique boundary and revenue challenges as he plans to establish payroll, personnel policies, and a midweek budget with accountants and attorneys.
The Destin Fishing Rodeo will offer a 50000 award for a Florida state record Blue Marlin caught during the October tournament. The prize, announced by Bob Ware, boosts total awards to over 110000 and possibly as high as 150000. The winner must beat 672 pounds 4 ounces and exceed it by at least 0.5 percent under IGFA and Rodeo rules.
Gov. Bob Graham’s Comprehensive State Plan outlines decade long growth in Okaloosa and Walton counties with population rises of 20 percent and 23 percent respectively by 1995. Water demand would rise to two million gallons daily in Okaloosa and one million in Walton, while the elderly population surges 69 percent in Okaloosa.
