Gas tax hearings set for Destin and Crestview
Destin residents may voice views on a proposed 1 to 4 cent gasoline tax to fund roads and bridges, with hearings April 30 in Shalimar and May 7 in Crestview. Projects include two bypasses, three roads, and Wright Parkway Bridge at an estimated 23 million dollars. A 4 cent tax could raise about 2.4 million yearly. 1 cent about 600 thousand. Also reported, Gen. Maj. Hans Neij, Sweden’s defense attaché, died of a heart attack after inhaling salt water while swimming near Holiday Isle. Memorial service planned in Washington.
