A letter from W H Lephien to Dermott News urges broad support for compulsory schooling and robust funding for Dermott High School. He condemns ignorance, advocates state education laws enforcement, teacher quality, and parental involvement, and proposes a local tax levy to fund a renovated school, gymnasium, and better facilities. He urges patrons to back principals, teachers, and disciplined student conduct.
A letter from W. OH Lephiew extols Prof. Athers as a scholar, teacher, and exemplary citizen. He vows to keep him at the school, praising his capabilities and character and asserting he would not allow him to leave for a higher daily pay elsewhere. The tone is personal and admiring.
I wish to express my appreciation to friends of Der ott for their kindness and sympathy during the illness and death of our beloved wife and daughter, Mrs Lawhorn, husband and father Lowe.
