Dermott Tupelo Lumber Company formed this week by W. L. Briscoe and W. H. Lephien to operate a sawmill northwest of Dermott. They have timber secured for two years and machinery on order, with a sixty day setup. Watch Dermott Grow.
A $50,000 Dermott corporation is nearly organized to establish a large general mercantile and furnishing business on Arkansas Street. Comprised of Dermott and Monticello businessmen, the firm aims to attract regional trade and make Dermott a central market hub, with capital stock secured and management plans under way. The Standard Oil Company of New Orleans has purchased a lot on Shephard Street beside the railroad line to build storage tanks and open a distributing station. Water Dermott Grow 1.
The Board of Trade holds its regular meeting at 5 o clock this evening in the assembly hall of the Chicot Hotel. All members are urged to attend. Secretary H. Bordeaux and President C. Helmstetter are noted.
Eighteen members of Company K led by 1st Lieut. R. L. Woolfolk and 2nd Lieut. J. B. Daniels returned to Dermott on the 8:30 train from Little Rock. Townspeople welcomed them at the station and hosted a banquet at Hotel Dermott organized by the Board of Trade with six courses and addresses of welcome. Lieut. Woolfolk spoke on Preparedness and reported on the company’s border service while local leaders praised their record.
