A district meeting of the Y W C A Red Triangle League was held at Crossett with M Measel in attendance. County and town Leagues are forming to maintain YMCA work for men in military and naval service. A permanent Chicot county organization exists with Chairman C M Measel Vice-chairman R M Holla Secretary F C Sims Treasurer W A Rolle. Campaign for members to start soon.
In Chicot county a campaign to raise 1500 for the War Camp Community Recreation Fund begins this week. Mayor G E Snell of Lake Village is county chairman and Dermott sub committee includes Eli Dante as captain J Pinkus J Cohen J Weisman and H Greenberg. An organizing meeting at Dante’s store Tuesday elected E P Remley chairman and R B Trussell secretary. A main meeting is planned next Tuesday to set Dermott’s quota and plans for fund raising. Public encouragement is urged.
Katherine Burlingame of the American Red Cross Standards Committee states sweaters should measure from 23 to 25 inches in length. She notes greater need for socks and helmets than sweaters at present and signs the letter from St. Louis.
Mr Frank N Henderson secretary of the Convention Committee in England is in Dermott Tuesday discussing the prospective visit of the National Editorial Association scheduled to pass through Dermott around noon on Tuesday June 11. Local plans include a Lake Village fish fry breakfast in their honor and a county wide meeting at the courthouse next Monday night to discuss entertaining the visitors and showing Dermott’s hospitality.
Splawn announces candidacy for a second term as County Treasurer. Described as efficient, courteous, and faithful in his first term, he plans to seek support in the upcoming primary. He is the region’s only current County Treasurer and pledges equal rights to all.
Butler for re election emphasizes Judge Turner Butler's proven record. The candidate claims he has reduced red tape and run the circuit court efficiently with decisive conduct. His decisions reportedly withstood Supreme Court review and reflect capability courtesy and courage.
In the March Pictorial Review lok column Mary Roberta Rinehart’s latest novel Long Live the King is praised as a worthwhile book. The tale follows a crown prince who becomes king in a tiny kingdom on the edge of revolution.
The Board of Health requires all Der mott residents to clean premises from March 1 to March 5 with thorough street and alley cleaning and rubbish in receptacles. Noncompliance may lead to town-authority cleanup at the resident’s expense, per J. A. Thompson, City Physician, February 19, 1918.
