Ed Yarian Promoted to Denver Agent at Hoovers

Ed Yarian, longtime assistant at Denver railway station, is promoted to agent and will be stationed at Hoovers. He recently visited Peru for final exams and will move to Hoovers Wednesday to learn the duties, assuming the permanent post next Saturday. Cecil Appelby will take his former Alig position from Hoovers.

Prize Essay on Fire Prevention for Indiana Pupils

State Fire Marshal W. E. Longley offers two prizes for Indiana high school pupils. First prize $15 and second prize $10 for essays on Fire Prevention not exceeding 2500 words. The churches met obligations in full. Large attendance and a very helpful meeting. The Association will meet at Perrysburg next year.

Miller couple relocate to Akron for poultry venture

Jess Miller and his wife moved their household goods to Akron this week to establish a new home. Miller plans to enter the poultry business in Akron, with headquarters there. His former Denver Telephone Co. repair role has been filled by Ross McDaniels of Chili.

East Washington Street Residents Build Cement Walks

Residents on East Washington Street are constructing cement sidewalks as an improvement. Joseph Smith and Charles Luckenbill had their walks laid last week. Plans call for extending the walks eastward to the Baptist church, likely next spring.

Old People’s Day Observed at Denver Indiana Church

Old People’s Day will be observed October 10 at the Methodist Episcopal Church in Denver Indiana. Guests of honor are those aged sixty and over and special transport will be provided from town for those living far away. The event includes morning, afternoon and evening services with no church dinner this year. The Denver School Alumni from 1889 to 1895 held their first reunion at City Park in Peru Indiana on Sunday September 19. Officers elected were Elmer Mull president Bertha Wright O Brian secretary and Ben Brower treasurer. Jefferson township schools enroll 353 in first week

Schools opened last Monday in Jefferson township and report an enrollment of 353 across Denver High School with 36, grades 81, Mexico High School 15 with 128, Mexico Home 50, Dist. No. 9 with 22, Dist. No. 1 with 21. More pupils are expected as the year begins. The district shows excellent condition and strong indications for a successful year.

Special Service At Baptist Church Features Italian Minister

A Wednesday evening service at the Baptist church was led by Rev. Rake with Rev. Gidoni, an Italian minister, delivering a well received address. Gidoni works among Italians in St. Louis, Missouri, and has sacrificed wealth and status to teach the gospel. An offering of over $34 was collected to aid his work.

Sunday School Bon Fire Honors St Louis Guests

The Baptist Sunday School hosted a bonfire social at Mr. and Mrs. Charles Golden’s home on Tuesday honoring Rev. J. F. Rake and Rev. Gidons of St. Louis Missouri. Apples roasted and Rocky Mountain Apple Pie baked by Rev. Rake and Mr. Golden were served. Italian songs by Rev. Gidoni added to the evening's features.
