School Year Begins in Jefferson Township Amid Building Delays

Trustees set Sept 12 start for Jefferson Township schools as a new Mexico building is delayed. High School students travel to Denver for a month then transfer to Mexico. Ford hack transport run by Henry Whisler. Denver staff include L L Hunn as principal and teachers Dice Bond Palmer Wright. Textbook updates apply. students may finish current books before buying new ones.

Waymire Dinner Celebrates Niece's Second Birthday

Dr. and Mrs. E. S. Waymire hosted a Thursday dinner at their Washing ton Street home in honor of their niece Marilyn McElwee of Indianapolis on her second birthday. Attending were Marilyn's mother Mrs. Raymond McElwee, grandmother Mrs. W. H. McGrew, and Mr. and Mrs. James B. Smith of Peru.

Obituary of Mrs Columbus Murphy of Rochester

Mrs Columbus Murphy a longtime Rochester resident and former active charities worker died after a yearlong battle with cancer at her South Elm Street home She was born Sarah Cook August 6 1851 in Miami County Ohio and married Columbus Murphy November 12 1871 The couple moved to Rochester in 1889 She leaves husband two children T A Murphy of Rochester and Mrs L W Davidson of South Bend Funeral services were held at the Baptist church with Rev C Davisson delivering the sermon Interment followed in the IOOF cemetery

Teachers Institute Meeting Set for Peoria High School

The first Joint Township Teachers Institute will be held next Saturday September 14 at the Peoria High School. A special program includes readings from the two Teachers Reading Circle books The regular institute of the year will be organized at this meeting. All township teachers are expected to attend.
