Fragmentary verse sequence promises renewal after toil and hardship with hopeful images of spring, growth, and eventual bliss, ending with a spiritual note of Heaven beyond death in a somber, archaic cadence.
A local column praises spring in Alta and Cass counties and highlights plans to grow sugar beets in the Eel River valley. It endorses a Denver sugar factory, urges farmers to plant beets, explains cultivation steps, and notes the Secretary of Agriculture will provide seeds and instructions. It also advertises Early Rose potatoes offered near Denver.
Stella Bair, a well known local teacher, died after a sudden illness that stunned citizens. Her passing, noted with sorrow, leaves a void in the community and in the lives of students and colleagues who held her in high regard.
Estella Mayfair died May 12 18 percent aged 21 years 8 months 17 days She was known as Stella a kind obedient and estimable young woman who hoped to be useful Teaching was her chosen work Having taught three terms in Jefferson township she won warm regard from pupils and friends Her death came suddenly shocking relatives and friends.
Stella Bair, a member of the Brethren church in Mexico, died after a two week illness described as a violent apoplectic convulsion. Funeral services were held at the Brethren church conducted by Rev Deitch and Rev Hopkins, with a large turnout outside the church as well. The bereaved family and community extend sympathy for the loss of the bright young life.
Decoration Day will be observed on a Saturday this year with the G AVR Post inviting all secret societies to join. The procession forms at the public square at six, proceeds to the cemetery to decorate graves, then goes to the Baptist church for services. Citizens urged to bring flowers.
Peter Click of Penu reports a gentleman's gold watch found on Gilead road north of Chili. Denver welcomes W. I. Wittwer, a graduate of Indianapolis Medical College, replacing Dr. Wright who will retire and move to Indianapolis. The Timnani wish the new doctor abundant success.
