Smallpox scare prompts cautious town notice

A village reports a mild smallpox scare after Miss Fouts shows symptoms and tests confirm exposure. Dr. Newell and the county board of health quarantine the Fouts home, vaccinate the family, and note several others were inoculated. Despite fear, the affected individuals recover well and the town hopes the outbreak ends soon.

Church Dedication at Amboy Reflects Growth

The Methodist Episcopal church in Amboy was dedicated on February 25 with a sermon by W. Smith of Peru. Donations totaling 1160 funded the debt free status and the church now enjoys strong growth with a Sunday School rising from 90 to 145 in a year.

Clara E. Lewis born July 15 1861 in Carroll County Indiana died February 24 1906 aged 44 years 7 months and 9 days She moved with parents Rev William Y and Nancy Winegardner to Cass County Adams Township in 1865 She married Jacob Lewis in 1882 They had seven children five sons and two daughters All survive except one She leaves four brothers and one sister She joined the M E church in 1890 and lived faithfully Funeral services by Rev H Lacey at Skinner's Chapel last Monday Interment in nearby cemetery.
