Noted Salem pastor suffers second paralytic stroke

In a letter to Mrs. Ina Fouts, Mrs. J M Baker of Salem Michigan reports Rev J M Baker has had a second paralytic stroke and remains in critical condition. Baker, formerly pastor in Denver, is well known for five years in the local Methodist pulpit.

Earl Baber known as Ted, a Kokomo man bound for Army draft training in Indianapolis, will be stationed in Akron with his wife Mary Baber and her sisters while he serves.

Extraordinary cattle sale to aid Red Cross at Peru farm

John H. Miller & Son announce a dispersion sale of 122 purebred cattle on June 26 1918 at their farm four miles north of Peru. Thousands are expected from across the country. A White heifer Red Cross Sultana will be sold with all proceeds to Miami county Red Cross for soldiers in France. Red Cross dinner served at low cost. Two Denver servicemen report in from Vancouver Washington and Takoma Park Maryland praising the service flag at Denver Methodist Church. George W Hayes writes from Vancouver June 1918 describing duty in a guard house and pride in the Old Rose bloom. Women urged to register next week in Peru Indiana

The notice calls all women who have not registered or been overlooked to register June 17 to 22 in Room 8 at the Court House in Peru Indiana. It emphasizes the importance of registration and notes a baby boy born to Mr and Mrs Grover Sea, bringing happiness to their home.

Peru to Host Fourth of July Celebration and Parade

Miami county will hold its Fourth of July at City Park in Peru with a large parade led by W. A. Hammond and Harry Fox. Bands from Converse, Bunker Hill, Peru and Macy will join. events include music, speeches, contests, ball game, shoot tournament and possibly a basket supper. Organizers urge all to attend July 4.

Tribune Seeks early renewals as postal costs rise

On July 1 new Postal Laws will raise sending costs for the Tribune. Publishers note production costs have not been raised before, but may force a subscription price increase. Readers should watch labels for an X indicating expiration by July 1 1918 and renew promptly to avoid higher rates.

War Savings Stamp Drive Set To Start June 21

A new War Savings Stamp drive begins June 21 and runs one week. President Wilson proclaims June 28 as the target day to reach 2 billion dollars in stamps sold or pledged for 1918. County chairman A H Cole and assistants will distribute pledge cards. residents urged to pledge monthly through year end.

Grimes Derek now drives a new Ford touring car presented by his parents Mr and Mrs C O Derek. He says the farm is fine but he must visit town now and then and the Ford is the only way.

Newell Family Leaves Denver for Oklahoma City Visit Ends

Mr and Mrs Clifford Newell and two daughters drove from Denver to Oklahoma City in a Page touring car after visiting Dr and Mrs J W Newell in Denver They left the drug store in charge of the head clerk during their trip but a telegram called Clifford back home sooner than expected due to the clerk being summoned.
