Tragic Drowning of Vernon Pugh in Farm Tank
Vernon Charleo Pugh, 15 months old, died Saturday afternoon after slipping into a cement tank behind his family farm near Peru Mexico. The tank, once ornamental, was used to water cattle and stood about ten feet wide with water nearly three feet deep. boards around the edge loosened allowing the child to squeeze through. The coroner ruled death by drowning. Funeral services were held at the Church of the Brethren in Mexico with burial in Dunkard cemetery.
