Robbers Attack Wiseman Watchman Burn and Rescued
August Wiseman, watchman on a steam shovel, was assaulted by two white men and a Black man near Laporte on the Chicago New York electric line. They beat him, set him on fire in the boiler firebox, and he crawled free after rescuers arrived. He survived with severe burns and a reward was offered for the attackers. Wiseman said they demanded whiskey or money before injuring him.

Wreck of Monon Train Near Crawfordsville
Two trainmen were killed and nine teen injured in the southbound Monon No. 3 wreck three miles north of Crawfordsville at 1 am. The engineer perished from escaping steam after being pinned, the fireman was buried beneath the engine, and rails spreading caused the crash. The track was relaid by noon and all injured were treated at a hospital.
