Foot Amputation for Civil War Veteran

After weeks of suffering doctors decided to amputate the injured foot to save J. W. Ellis life. Two operations followed by a hospital transfer to Miami County Hospital Peru where the foot was removed Tuesday afternoon. He rests easily and is said to be progressing well for his age in the hot weather.

Francis Marion Redmon: A Civil War Veteran’s Life Story

Francis Marion Redmon born 1845 in Cicero Indiana grew up near McMurty Prairie Tipton County. He enlisted December 1863 at 18 in 101st Indiana Co C serving with Sherman, later mustered out August 1 1865 in Indianapolis. He married Celia Umphries July 8 1866 at Sharpsville. they had six children and remained together fifty years.

Threshing Season Opens Around Denver in 1916

Threshing began Tuesday near Denver for the 1916 season. Ed Benedict started at Henry Lewis’s east of Denver, while Runkle Hart crews worked at Bill West’s to thresh Woolley town Ring. Henry Lewis delivered the first new wheat to the Denver market at 1.07 per bushel, testing 60 pounds, with 28 bushels per acre. Wheat quality is good though yield may lag last year, and elevators recorded 1000 bu Tuesday and 1200 bu Wednesday.

I. C. Brower of East Denver broke the bones of a lower arm while cranking his automobile on Saturday morning. The engine kicked him, causing the injury, which will keep him from using his arm for a few weeks.

Township Celebration Promises Music and Picnics for Indiana Admission

The fourth conference of township committees met at A. D. Grafft’s Mexico home to plan the Indiana admission celebration. Connor Grove offers shade and spring water for dinners with stands, speaking, and musical program featuring school chorus, flag drill, costumed girls, YWCA song, Wea saw class, piano duet, and a ladies quartet. Residents expect valuable exhibits and urge neighbors to bring picnic baskets.
