Examinations are over with varied results. Best scores include Artie Hoole 100 and Elvin Long 97 among Freshmen. some classes tackled Sophomore Latin and Junior Solid Geometry. Several pupils were dismissed for illness, Harry Eikenberry quit Friday, Mercedes Newell absent earlier, and badges noted as some pupils joined a lodge.
Marvin Bernard son of farmer James Bernard living northwest of Mexico was arrested last Wednesday on rape charges involving Wanda Zartman daughter of Noah Zartman. He appeared before Judge Tillet under $2500 bond, later released on $1500 bond by Morgan Turnipseed. The girl is reportedly under sixteen, risking life imprisonment if convicted.

Mrs. ED Robbins dined with Will Shumate and Sun Elmer Conner of Peru in Denver on Thursday to conduct business. Wear Ever Aluminium Ware advertised at McCaffreys in Peru. Wilbur Dillman of Sioux City, Iowa arrived in Denver for a several week visit with relatives and friends.

Floyd Conner of Mexico and Miss Spatn Mary Brower of Gilead married at six to nine pm after a secret license. Reverend Rank of the Brethren church oversaw the elopement style ceremony at the Conner farm with Miss Grace La Due of Denver as the sole witness.
Mr and Mrs Thomas Murden report that their niece and nephew Omer and Maude Fenters of San Diego describe two monster swordfish captured offshore near that city. The fish, entangled by nets set by two Italian fishermen to catch barracuda, were drowned after hours of battle as the nets were ruined. Each fish surpassed 14 feet in length and weighed over 500 pounds.
The Montana Exhibit car arrived in Denver Tuesday over the Vandalia and was visited by many. The samples of fruit grain and other farm and mine products impressed the crowds with their variety and appearance. The evening Baptist church lecture drew a large attendance.
Mrs B Kinzie of Peru visited Denver early this week to arrange shipment and set up a parlor millinery at her home in Peru.
The Brethren Church dedication drew a full house as Dr. J. A. Miller of Ashland Ohio delivered the sermon on The Love of God. Pledges plus cash gifts totaled 3712.29 on the first day, leaving a 271.91 deficit with promises to continue support.
Mrs Laura R E Ward thanks friends and neighbors for 137 birthday cards received on her 34th birthday, which fell on Christmas Day. She notes joyful meditations on familiar names and mentions returning to Indiana last fall after eleven years away.

The Methodist Ladies Aid plans a meeting with Mrs. Lewis Gustin on Wednesday afternoon February 1. Residents are invited to attend and participate in the local church auxiliary activities.

Mrs. Allen Zimmerman and mother-in-law visited at R W Butt’s Monday.
