The Baptist Missionary Society gathered February 7, 1918, at Mrs Joe Murphys, with a bob sled ride by Mr Murpy after the meeting. Members read readings and Mrs Joe Murphy shared a letter from Mrs Edgeworth. Next meeting set for March 7 at Mrs Merritt Murphys.
Flooding washes out Vandalia bridges east and west of Denver causing heavy train delays. Tuesday detours were needed west of town and Wednesday high water at Liberty Mills damaged bridges and endangered others. Wabash and Ohio river regions face rising flood conditions with Peru holding flood stage.
Announcement in this issue states Frank Isler seeks renomination for County Assessor as a Democrat. Born in Ohio he moved to Miami County, now lives at Bunker Hill, and his first term is praised for the county's benefit.
Mr and Mrs Charles Long and Mr and Mrs Willis Long were guests of Victor Long and family, including baby Lais Irene, on Thursday. Miss Salome Dumbauld RN of Indianapolis visited Miss Edythe Baker from Saturday through Monday morning.
Flooding along Crazy Creek east of town caused extensive damage in south and east Penver. Water reached several inches in homes on South Emmons, forcing evacuations by boat. many cellars and stores lost perishables and poultry as the surge lasted only a few hours and receded by Wednesday morning.
Merton E. Andrews announces his candidacy for clerk of the Miami circuit court on the Republican ticket subject to the primary. A Miami county native who has resided locally all his life he is described as hardworking industrious and well respected. He has written insurance for years and seeks voters support promising faithful service if elected.
Eventus Doud, who lived in Richland township, shot Ruth Doud at close range as she returned from the wood shed at the Balasbaugh home three miles northwest of Mexico. She survived initial injuries but remained in serious condition. Doud was captured after fleeing to the Judy home and later deemed insane after an inquest. Mrs. Doud is the daughter of former county commissioner Charles Ward.
A vintage ad from Denver Indiana invites customers to bring their cream to the Cream Station near the store for testing every Friday. The message promises friendly service and customer satisfaction with a simple plan.
County treasurer Henry Knauff, who took office at year start succeeding A B Zook, announces his bid for a second term on the Democratic ticket. A longtime Union township resident now living in Peru, he is familiar with treasurer duties and considered competent for the post.
Mrs. W. H. Howes and Mrs. A. F. White with three children Albert Miriam and Esther were entertained at dinner Thursday at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Lee Long.
Mr and Mrs George Lane and daughter Charlotte of Kokomo visited Denver from Wednesday evening to Thursday evening with Mrs Lanes parents. Ovid Lane stationed at Camp Myer near Washington serves in the Medical Department and hopes for peace as the war ends. The Indiana family notes the war preparations in Washington and reports their son and daughter are well.
The Union Meetings start at 10:45 Sunday at the Brethren Church and run three weeks. Rev L A Myers preaches next Sunday, Harry Richer leads music, and organizers urge full attendance from the first day. A Union Prayer Meeting is planned Friday night with Mr Richer present.
The next Saturday the high school hosts the Sixth Joint Township Teachers Institute with Rev. Dr. Richardson as speaker. Morning talk titled Ourselves and the War and afternoon lecture The Teacher on the War. Sections will study chapters 12 to 14 of Secondary Problems in Primary Education.
Mr and Mrs Milo Sullivan and Beamer Black of Twelve Mile were calling on friends and transacting business in Denver on Wednesday.

Basketball triumphs 44 to 26 over North Manchester. next games with Chili and Amboy before Ko koma sectional March 8-9. Attendance honors mint at Enid Hart Garnet Keim Harold Kindig Clarence Robins Cleo Stuber Susie Cripe Vivian Kotterman. Thrift Stamps near $200 sold.
Dr. Mathew Baber of Roann visited with his mother Mrs. Mary Baber and sisters on Tuesday. A local store itemized as Foultry Supplies at Jones Hardware in Peru was noted in the brief report.
