The S. S. organization staged an entertainment and distributed Christmas gifts to their owners. W. G. Deeds, Nash Wright & Co. stenographer with the Chicago Board of Trade, returned home Friday from a trip. C. W. Baldwin of an Elkhart bicycle firm visited his parents east of town. Clay Fites, recently in Winamac, came home Friday night. R. A. Robbins and family spent Christmas day with his brother-in-law. Lorenzo Dowd visited his cousin Ross Robins the first of the week. Levi Kath shows slow improvement after illness. E. Keller from near Chili teaches the upper room during Karn’s absence. Samuel Dillman, elderly, is seriously ill with La Grippe and is growing weaker.
A notice to patrons requests all accounts be settled by cash or note by January 15 1998. Debtors are urged to call and resolve balances at once.
Christmas night brought festive sights in Twelve Mile with two hundred presents on ladders and a grand display. The minister received an overcoat amid speeches as locals, friends from Indianapolis, and neighbors shared greetings while others faced ill health and ongoing meetings. A Santa window fire damaged Hall & Lowenthal's display, saved by quick clerks, with many goods lost to the blaze.
Walter O'Brian of Peru visited Otto Fishburn Tuesday. Mothers buy children and boys clothing now, fathers dress up, overcoats offered. Julius Walk disrupts Julius Falk sale with a one third off push on clothing and ribbons arriving at Manchester's.
Additional Local Marion visitors attend lectures at the M E church and social visits abound as Hallé Lowenthal advertises a large clothing sale through February 1st. Julius Falk and Otto Fishburn promote heavy discounts while community members share travel, school, and holiday stories across Peru, Fort Wayne, and nearby towns.
