Electrification Plan Proposed for Boston to Washington Route

Secretary Fall endorsed a Geological Survey plan to build a national electric grid from Boston to Washington. It calls for 970 miles of 220 000 volt lines and 6 electronics of 110 000 volt lines, totaling $1.100584 billion by 1930, with $104 million needed by then. The Boston Washington area would save 60 million tons of coal annually by 1930, yielding $196 million in fuel savings. railroad electrification would cut investment by 11 to 19 percent.

Efficiency Drive for Veterans Bureau Seeks Broad Reforms

A Senate special committee report urges the Veterans Bureau to broaden its interpretation of laws and extend eligibility. It calls for a $26,400,000 hospital appropriation, transfer of government hospitals, creation of a chaplain corps, patient cemeteries, standard training, and insured options up to $10,000 per policyholder. It also recommends canceling unsuitable hospital contracts and tightening administration to reduce political influence.

Elms planted for Lincoln Memorial dedication ceremony

American Elms were planted on the Lincoln Memorial grounds to honor allied armies and navies. Charles Lathrop Pack of Lakewood New Jersey, president of the American Forestry Association, dedicated the trees. Mrs. Warren G Harding presented a tree trowel to American Legion members for planting at the Twenty third Street entrance.

Department of Agriculture figures show farm co operatives in 1920 near 375.7 million dollars in business, up from about 60 million in 1919. The report notes rising farmer education in cooperative marketing and 798 county agents aiding formation of co operatives, with total business in co operatives around 875.7 million dollars and substantial savings.
