Forbes Scoops and the First to Sleep in the Newsroom
A vignette shows Archibald Forbes snatching a late-night scoop while colleagues Jones and Smith sleep, racing to file before dawn and learning three days later they were behind by a day. The second note recounts how Saratoga Springs earned its name from a boy exclaiming that the congress found a new sprite, a label that stuck to the famous springs.

Artificial sponges from cellulose in Germany
Artificial sponges are made in Germany by treating pure cellulose with sine chloride. The product swells in water and on drying becomes hard. Alkalikaloida are used to prevent thin action. A pasty mass is obtained, treated with rock galt, then placed in a mold. When renewed it appears to be traversed by canals in all directions and after washing in alcohol and water the sponge is ready for use.
