United Fund Budget Approved for Caroline County
The Caroline County United Fund Board met in a special session at the Court House on September 11 and approved a first drive budget of 21 167 34 dollars. The plan allocates 5 028 60 to Memorial Hospital 4 933 74 to Red Cross 5 100 00 to Boy Scouts 3 060 00 to Girl Scouts 2 040 00 to Mental Health with 1 005 00 for expected operating expenses. The fund drive targets late October with Advanced Gifts preceding it. Officers named include President W E Unger Vice President H R Hughes Secretary Mrs Herbert Horton and Treasurer Clark Quillen. Man Sentenced For Stabbing In Maryland Cannery Case
Joe Dennis, a Georgia native, received six months in the Maryland House of Correction for assault with a knife against James Roper, a Florida resident, while both worked at a Henderson cannery. Judge Wright handed down the sentence last Thursday. Dennis was taken to the house by Sheriff William E. Andrew on Tuesday.

Four O'clock Burning Law Is Now In Effect
Open air burning is prohibited until after 4 p m until 12 midnight E S T from Sept 15 to Dec 15. When burning you must have at least a ten foot clearance around the material and have present adequate personnel and equipment to prevent fire from spreading. Do not burn on windy days when the fire danger is much greater. Hunters and lumbermen should be very careful smoking and building warming fires in the woods during the fall and winter months. There is an increase in dumping trash along the woods all over the county which has created fire hazards. We have had a number of forest fires start from these trash piles where people have discarded matches and cigarettes etc while unloading their trash. People who will mar the beauty of the forest with their trash are not apt to be careful about their fire. Please use your public dump and help prevent fires. Note Farmers who have bulldozed brush or other material that has to be burned during the day should contact the Church Creek Fire Tower Cambridge 742 W 3 to have a warden inspect the area before it is burned.

Micro Midget Runs Powder Puff Feature
The Choptank Micro Midget Racing Club held its biggest day of the season on Sunday September 14. Car No. 19 Bill Tribbett of Greensboro led early but faced a challenge from Car No. 9 Brown of Harrington. Car No. 7 driven by J Porter of Harrington won the second heat after a tight race with Car No. 49 Paul Legates of Harrington. The Choptank Specialig featured six members all owning and driving their cars, won by Buddy Spiering in Car No. 111. Walter Schiff of Harrington won the Consolation in Car No. 30. In the main event Car No. 7 led until lap 19 when Car No. 3D grabbed and held the lead to the finish. The powder puff derby for seven lady drivers ended the day with their race.
