Fire devastates Oxford Maryland business block
A midweek blaze in Oxford on Morris Street destroyed a general merchandise store Robinson and Harris and Barnett’s drug store along with Seeden’s barber shop and the Dr. Joseph A. Ross office and Oxford Fire House. Firemen battled the four hour blaze from shortly after 2 a.m. until 6 a.m. stopping the spread on the opposite side after high winds fanned the flames. No prisoners in the jail were harmed. The cause remains unknown and total losses top $100,000. Oxford, a major oyster, fishing and crabbing center, suffered extensive damage to one side of the street with the other side largely spared.

Fourth District Man Accused of Fire at Preston Barn
Ben Muller 58 is accused of setting a large barn on Harvey Parrott farm two miles north of Preston last Friday night causing about 15000 dollars in losses. Captured Saturday by Constable Philip Wright Muller confessed to entering the feed room and firing the hay and admits previous tire punctures. He was arraigned at Preston before Justice Percy Douglas and committed to Denton county jail awaiting grand jury action. Firemen aided by Preston and Easton saved a smaller barn and outbuildings. Muller, a German immigrant who lived at Henry Monts house nearby, had been discharged from Parrotts employ two years ago and held a grudge.
