Fire Destroys Acme Supermarket in Milford
More than 200 volunteer firefighters fought a two alarm blaze that destroyed the Acme Supermarket in Milford Delaware on Monday afternoon. A firefighter was injured and a store customer fainted needing first aid. The fire started around 5 PM with about 20 shoppers inside and was under control after about four hours. The blaze spread to a nearby Chatter Box and a laundry, with smoke and water damage seen miles away. The cause was unknown but may have involved a rear yard trash shed and possibly children. Buildi ng replacement cost could exceed initial estimates.

Harrington Harness Meet Opens With Expanded Ten-Race Nights
Harrington Raceway in Kent and Sussex County opens a 30 night harness racing meet this Saturday with post time at 8 p m. Racing will be nine races nightly but will rise to ten on Fridays and Saturdays. Over 500 trotters and pacers are already on site with arrivals anticipated next week. Local and out of state stables will compete, led by top drivers Edgar Alexander and Elton White who return to defend titles.
