The second annual Maryland Land Week observance is planned for October 7 to 13 with statewide committees in 23 counties and a Baltimore City focus. Edward F. Holter leads the state advisory group promoting conservation farming, library and business displays, and meetings encouraging public support for soil and natural resource conservation. The theme is Land productivity is a good defense against inflation, with a roster of officials and volunteers coordinating activities across agriculture, homemaking, conservation, and education.

Youth Leadership Conference Opens September 21 at Harford County Camp
The Maryland Rural Youth Leadership Conference opens September 21 at the Harford County 4-H Camp with about 100 youths from farm groups including 4-H Senior Council All Stars Grange and Farm Bureau. Registration starts 2 p.m. with Dr James M Gwin delivering the opening address that evening Edward W Ailen will speak on citizenship at 9 a.m. Saturday. Activities include classes in leadership and recreation, plus swimming softball volleyball tours. Gwynn Garnett will discuss youth in farm organizations and Sunday features a hike, worship, and adjournment.

Phyllis Lawrence named Miss Highway Safety of 1951 by Maryland Motor Truck Association is praised by Bailey Goss on his National Sports Parade. Miss Highway Safety will lead a Memorial Stadium parade in Baltimore for the Roadeo with over 70 top drivers competing. Winners advance to Chicago for the national event against 47 states.
