The official First Congressional district count shows Representative David J. Ward ahead by 75 votes over State Senator Dudley G. Roe. Ward led late as Cecil county reported 1,504 to 1,316. Roe’s gains came in Kent and Queen Anne’s. Andrus trailed.
In August article a county nurse explains her role and training. She describes programs for maternity child health school tuberculosis venereal disease orthopedic and communicable disease. She details vaccination checks school inspections and cooperation with physicians and families.
Wesley Junior College announces Miss Dorothy H Eshelman as dean of women and English instructor, joining a growing faculty led by Dr Arthur J Jackson. The college nears opening day Saturday Sept 19 with registrations rising and beliefs of strong enrollment. faculty list includes Wa terbury Styles and others.
Walter N Ruth of the Treasury reports Caroline County met August bond goals and covered July missing sales. The Sept quota is 47100 with a drive urging every resident to invest 10 percent of income in War Bonds and Stamps. The effort links purchases to supplying military hardware and equipment for troops. The four local theaters pledge 100 percent cooperation in September.
War bonds help purchase winter flying jackets for Army and Navy Air Corps. These regu lar jackets cost from 12 to 18 dollars, made of horsehide leather and sheep shearling lining.
