Harvest Festival Plans Shaping Up at Caroline High School

The 1955 Annual PTA Harvest Festival will be held at Caroline High School in Denton on October 19 from 2 to 9 pm. Mrs. Maloney and Mrs. Dulin chair the food committee with hot dogs to cakes on the menu. Activities include dances, games, movies, a farm market and bake sale, and chances for a home-grown turkey and a 12-pound cured ham.

Workshop For Girl Scout Leaders Held In Denton

Mrs. K. T. Everngam chairing a Leaders Workshop on Saturday October 15 from 10 a m to 3 p m at First Methodist Church Denton Topics include Crafts Badge Senior and Games Programs for Brownie Intermediate and Senior groups with singing helps. Registration 25 cents. nursery care provided. attendees to bring handbooks guides notebooks and lunch. Coffee and tea served.

Poster Contest Winners Announced by Harvest Festival

The Denton PTA Harvest Festival Committee announced winners for a poster contest with 39 entries from Denton students in three age groups. Judges were the Denton School of Art adult class. prizes were gift certificates. First place: 8-12 Mary Ann Fleetwood. 5-7 Carolyn Stivers. 1-4 Mary Eleanor Duffey.

Martin Gets Past President's Pin At First PTA Meeting

One of the largest PTA crowds filled the High School Auditorium as new president Dr. Martin outlined goals. Highlights included classroom visits, an opening ceremony, a Past President's Pin, budget approval of 1,550.64, and plans for adult education while stressing PTA as a non profit all-citizens group to improve Denton schools.

Local Scout Drive Kicks Off Denton Campaign Event

The Special and Advance Gifts phase of the 1956 Boy Scouts finance drive launched at the Brick Hotel in Denton. Leaders and Scouters chaired by James Owen Knotts plan gifts of 25 dollars or more, with Jim Pyle as luncheon speaker on preserving heritage through Scouting.

Winter adult education courses announced for Denton area

Caroline County Board of Education and the State Board of Education announce two adult courses at Caroline High School. One course covers typing shorthand and bookkeeping. the other covers home economics with furniture repair and maintenance. Courses run second semester from January 9 to April 30, with a $2 registration fee per semester.

State Teachers To Meet In Fifth Regiment Armory Baltimore

Governor Williams will address about 10 000 teachers at the opening general session in Baltimore's Fifth Regiment Armory on October 20. Dr Thomas G Pullen Jr and Dr Ethel Alpenfels accompany the program with talks linking education to the future and anthropology. The event runs three days with 174 exhibits and student musical performances by Wicomico High School Band All Maryland chorus and All Maryland orchestra.

Girl Scout Council Meeting in Chestertown Night

All registered adult and senior Scouts are urged to attend a council meeting at Reed Hall Washington College Chestertown on Tuesday October 18 at 8 p m The main topic is the Denver Resolution proposing a national registration fee increase from 1 to 2 dollars per year with one dollar kept locally and one sent to national headquarters Delegates must be well informed to vote in line with council wishes and to ensure proper representation for the October meeting

Health Association To Hold Annual Meeting In Denton

Caroline County Health Association president Harry H. Rieck announced the annual meeting will be held Thursday October 20 at 8 p m in the health center in Denton. Reports from Nursing Mental Hygiene Cancer Polio Red Cross Tuberculosis Salvation Army Crippled Children and Adults Welfare School Health Rehabilitation and American Legion Auxiliary will be presented. An election of the Board of Directors will occur. Members and the public are urged to attend.

Caroline County's assistant home demonstration agent Marybelle H. Remsburg will accompany about 60 Maryland youth to Jackson's Mill West Virginia for the annual men and women's training conference October 14 to 16. Two Talbot County officials James W Goodman and Nancy L Joseph will also attend.

Slip Gover Training Meetings Completed

The Home Furnishings Leaders of 13 Homemakers' Clubs spent 3 days at Camp Mardela last week making slip covers. Miss Vivian L. Curnutt demonstrated each step in the fitting and construction of a slip cover and helped the women individually as needed.
