Brown Rush Murder Trial Opens in Denton Jail Cell Evidence Quietly Grows
Sheriff Woollyhand and Deputy Roberts brought Thomas R Brown to Denton jail for the Brown Rush murder trial. A day watchman and night guards were appointed, and nearly a hundred witnesses were summoned. The jury was chosen after an extended selection, with State and defense attorneys outlining the case as Augusta Rush testified about the homicide, starting with her account of her husband Samuel Rush being shot. Sixteen jurors were seated after challenges for capital punishment and health. The proceedings suggest mounting, shifting evidence and heightened public interest in the celebrated case.
