Frida and Robert race to save Axel with faith in mystical aid as a violent Baltic gale and ice floes threaten their lives. Christian shares legends of the Black Virgin, Robert sails through ice to plead for Axel, Frida follows in peril, and both pull through to save the boy and end a curse on Liedsmarken.
A Danish style tale set on a rugged Finnish coast near Liedsmarken tells how the Black Virgin on a sea rock demands a yearly victim. In December 1656 the ill orphan Axel faces death as Frida and her fiancé Robert wrestle with love and duty while a neighbor’s presence hints at a dire fate.
