Cable Across Chesapeake A Maryland Telephone Plan

A Sun dispatch from Dover reports Diamond State Telephone Co president Harry A. Richardson says the firm will lay a cable across Chesapeake Bay from Level Point on the Eastern Shore to a point opposite in Anne Arundel county. The 43 wire system with five double wires will begin spring work and connect three miles to Baltimore. The line will improve Baltimore East Shore and Delaware communications. Oyster dredging risks are mitigated by routing in non oyster zones with rocky shallows. War Department sees value in direct Washington to Delaware breakwater service and allows buoying of the site. Dredgers will avoid stationary submarine objects when a cable is known location.
