Chairman John Barton Payne announced the Eleventh Annual Red Cross Roll Call aiming for 5,000,000 adult members in the United States. He cited growing disaster relief demands and cited fiscal year expenditures totaling 16.14 million across national, chapter, healthcare and veteran services.
Red Cross nurses served in large numbers for the Florida hurricane and Mississippi flood over the past year. About 350 nurses worked in Florida with 100 more volunteering early on, and around 200 assisted in the Mississippi valley flood. The enrolled reserve exceeds 45,000 nurses, ready for emergencies and wartime duties. The Eleventh Annual Roll Call, from November 11 to 24, invites public identification with the Red Cross.
