The Veterans Administration outlined the payment plan for a 2.8 billion NSLI special dividend set to begin in January. Checks go to applicants grouped by the last three digits of their service serial number with ten processing units handling 20 000 cards daily. For multi serials the NSLI certificate number is used.
On Sunday November 27 the Denton Soccer Club meets Federalsburg A C in an Eastern Shore Soccer League game at Schaub Park. The club will hold a halftime draw for a turkey prize with Lucky Number. Denton and Federalsburg are tied for fourth place, promising a fast contest with Denton’s forward line featuring Pippin Noble Lane Baynard Murray Smith and veterans Fleetwood Bennington Deford Cugler. Midfielders Starkey Stafford Butler Irwin Merriken Shahan. Fullback Charles Porter supported by Sam Rice and Bob Lane in goal. Denton invites local support at Schaub Park Sunday.
The Dentonia Treat is back with a free Thanksgiving Day matinee at Dentonia Theatre on Thursday November 24, 1949. The family show begins at 2 P.M. with comics cartoons and short subjects for all the county's children.
The Paul E Titsworth Forensic Society of Washington College Chestertown presents a public forum on World Peace Thursday evening Dec 1 at 8 o clock in William Smith Hall Representative E T Miller will speak on United World Federalists Organization and strengthening the United Nations Charter.

The Episcopal Church in Denton marked a milestone as Bishop Allen J. Miller, newly consecrated and visiting for the first time as diocesan bishop, administered confirmations for a large class at Christ Episcopal Church. The Temple Fund Committee of the Grand Chapter Maryland Order of the Eastern Star hosts a bazaar supper and card party at Fifth Regiment Armory Baltimore on Saturday November 26. Activities begin at 1 PM with a Hi Jinks Radio Show at 1 30, Minstrel Show at 4, cards and games at 8 30 and lime rock contest winners announced at 9 39. Supper served 5 to 7 30 with bazaar items and other attractions including fortune telling. Proceeds fund an Eastern Star Temple for Maryland.
The Concord Christian Comrade Class met at Mrs. Dorothy Flaharty’s home on November 10 with Mrs. Lida Trice and Mrs. Helen Wilson assisting. The meeting opened with hymn singing and prayer. Readings from Titus and Philemon were presented. The clothing committee reported 644 Ibs of clothing sent and $1.50 postage paid. Grounds shrubbery was purchased and planted.
Miss Margaret B. Wiles Public Health Nursing Consultant Maryland Health Department will speak at Caroline High School Denton on Tuesday night at 8:00 about emotional growth from infancy to adolescence. The lecture series covers two topics and invites public attendance.
Tri County District Boy Scouts of America held a rally and round up amid a crisp fall day marking Scout Trail Week in the DelMarVa Council. The event featured a parade at Easton High School led by the Easton band with units from Denton Centreville Oxford Trappe Tilghman St Michaels Easton Ship Easton and Easton 177.
A special service is scheduled at Pilgrim Holiness Church on Sunday November 27 at 2 30 PM. Rev Paul Uhrig son of former pastor Rev H E Uhrig will speak. Uhrig, known as a walking Bible, and his wife lead a revival at the church in Easton Maryland with daily 1045 AM broadcasts on WCMD Cambridge. All are welcome to attend.
Maryland commission plans bids in December for an arterial expressway linking Delaware Memorial Bridge near New Castle with Maryland routes south of the site. The $12 million program includes 9.2 miles of dual lane concrete from Cox Creek east of Stevensville to east of Queenstown, with overall cost $6.65 million for the project. The plan, part of 21 highway improvements across Cecil Queen Anne's Kent and Caroline counties, emphasizes bypasses, by passes, and widening to remove sharp and reverse curves, including Route 313 rehabilitation and relocations around Ingleside Double Hills and Watts Creek.
Dr K Frances Scott, president of the National Federation of Business and Professional Women, urges thanks for growing recognition of women's capabilities. She notes new high ranking roles for women, including a minister to Luxembourg and a U.S. senator, and calls for shared harvest and world peace as part of Thanksgiving.
Dr. Robert H. Riley, director of the Maryland State Department of Health, urged immediate purchase of Christmas Seals to support the fight against tuberculosis in Maryland. He noted the seals have aided the state for over forty years and insisted the work must continue to reach a day free of the disease.
The reopening of the Matthews Methodist Church scheduled for Sunday, November 27 at 2 30 P M has been postponed to December 4 at 2 30 P M The Rev John E French pastor of First Methodist Church Denton formerly served as minister of the Matthews church will speak at the December 4 service
The Five County Girl Scout Leaders Club will meet November 29 at 3 00 P M in the Girl Scout Room in Denton. A block printing demonstration by Mr Max Chambers is on the agenda along with highlights from the National Convention in Milwaukee last week.
