Californian Patent Hope for Doughnut Machine Breakthrough
Nauman Davidson of San Francisco seeks a patent for an improved doughnut machine claimed to output 10,000 doughnuts an hour without an engineer present. Backed by his father and a friend, he spent six years building a model once tied to a failed Los Angeles deal.

New Shortage of Low-Cost Housing Seen in the Future
A study by Investors Diversified Services forecasts a coming shortage of affordable homes. Through mid 1951 about 625000 new family dwellings started, with 400000 of these on pre Regulation X authorizations, leaving about 225000 under the curbs. If starts fall 30 to 40 percent in late 1951, total family dwellings may reach about 1 million, with roughly 700000 being low or medium priced and reachable by newly forming or larger families.

Boiling Water On Ice With Vacuum
Water can boil on ice if a sufficient vacuum lowers the ambient pressure. Evaporation occurs at any temperature, but boiling requires the vapor pressure to reach atmospheric levels. At 32 F the vapor pressure is about 0.1 psi, roughly 1/170 of normal air pressure, allowing boiling on ice under strong vacuum.
Star Masses and Sizes Across the Galaxy
The Sun’s mass would be expressed as ten to the 26th power. Other stars range roughly from one fifth to about 15 times that mass. Stellar sizes vary far more than masses, with the largest stars about 3,000 times the Sun’s diameter and the smallest dwarfs around a tenth of the solar diameter.
