Understanding Oriental Peoples Needs Greater Western Effort
Dr Reuben Steinmeyer of Maryland University urged the Caroline County Older Youth Council to foster sympathetic understanding of Oriental problems and make concessions for lasting peace. He traced China and Japan’s histories, warned China would menace if strong, noted one third of the world’s population in China and India, and said Chiang Kai-shek would struggle to control China. He claimed Japan borrowed from China, originated only a 13 string instrument, and that Imperial University admissions were limited to nobility sons. Attendees included Francis M Rogers and Miss Bessie M Spafford. Miss Sarah Finn presided.
