A Thanksgiving service on November 23 at 11 a m will unite five Denton congregations in the Church of the Brethren. The Rev John E French will preach with assisting pastors including Newton J Miller Carl Range Thomas S Dixon T J Turkington. A joint service at Grace Methodist will mark Victory in Europe with plans to hold an evening prayer meeting if hostilities end by noon.

Last Friday and Saturday the Grace and First Methodist Church ladies sold wares at Bivan Hopkins Rexall Drug Store in Denton. Grace Church earned 73.85 on Friday while First Methodist collected 81.55 on Saturday. The group thanks contributors for the success. Lieutenant and Mrs Wright announce birth of a son on November 7 in Charleston military hospital. The baby will bear the name of his father, son of Bertha S Wright and the late J Frank Wright of Denton. Mrs Wright before marriage was Janna Kenney of Salisbury Maryland.

Solomon’s Francis Filmore Davis, F c, serves with the U S Navy Amphibious Forces in the South Pacific. Corporal Calvin Thomas, a former Caroline High School teacher from Denton, now serves in the U S Army in the Southwest Pacific. He organized a Glee Club and plays the organ for Sunday services on the island base. Thomas earned a BS from State Teachers College Cheyney and arrived overseas in September 1943 after basic training at Jefferson Barracks.
