Homecoming and Harvest Home Services at Wesley Church

Appointment With Health Month for the Aging in Caroline County

The Caroline County Commissioners designate November 1960 as Appointment With Health Month for the Aging urging residents aged 65 and older to schedule a health check-up with their physician. The proclamation, dated October 25 at Denton, Md, supports ongoing health for aging residents.

State Trooper Activity During The Past Week

The State Police report week of accidents and incidents across the county. A 1949 Ford driven by Charlie Gleaton skidded on wet road near Concord with $200 damage and no injuries. A 1953 Dodge driven by Thomas Lar amore hit a deer on Route 313 east of Denton. deer killed and car damage about $175. Several arrests followed for forgery and trespassing. Escapes from Boys Forest Camp noted and vandalisme during Halloween weekend reported in Greens boro and Ridgely with mailbox and sign damage and vandalism across the county.

Caroline County 4-H Boy Wins Chicago Dairy Trip

J. D. Neal of the Sugur Apple Tree 4-H Club will represent Maryland at the Sixth Annual Dairy Conference in Chicago in December 1960. He departs November 30 and returns December 4 after earning the trip for a 14-I dairy record judged by the State 4-H Club office. Neal farms with his father Dallas Neal near Andersontown.

Denton National Makes Big Interest Payment

The Denton National Bank paid a record 67022.17 in six months interest to over 2000 savings depositors for May 1 to October SP 6. President J Roland Chaffineh said the total tops last year’s six months and exceeds the 3 percent rate effective since November 1959. He cited the bank’s economic soundness in central Delmarva and noted growth since 1957.

Caroline United Fund On Air Drive For County Campaign

The Caroline United Fund Drive will be promoted via radio and TV appearances. Mrs. KK Thomas Evergain of Denton will join the Bob Jones Show on WBAL TV Channel 11 in Baltimore Monday November 7 from 1 to 2 pm. Various fund officials will speak on WEMD Easton on November 3 through 16 with dates for A W Reddish Judge J De Weese Carter John Sargreaves and others. Ground Breaks for Denton Post Office and Federal Building

Ground breaking ceremonies were held at Market and Fifth for a new U S Post Office and Federal Building in Denton. Contractor Charles E Brohawn and Bros Inc of Cambridge won a 391000 contract for completion by September 1961. Local and federal officials attended and praised the project as a community milestone.

Denton Halloween Party Winners Listed

Denton held a Halloween party with many costumes. Judges announced winners in four categories, including prettiest group and most original. Top honors went to Pat Bennington as Spanish Lady and Mae Lord as Robot.

Hadaway Predicts Democratic Sweep In Caroline County

Caroline County Democratic Campaign Chairman Charles E. Hadaway predicted a Democratic sweep this Tuesday in Caroline County. He urged voting, stressed domestic issues over foreign policy, defended JFK Johnson and Tom Johnson, and condemned Republican farm policies while endorsing Congressman Tom Johnson for continued service.

Trial Magistrates Convict Two In Week's Hearings

On Thursday October 27 two convictions were handed down in the county trial magistrates courts. In Federalsburg Brooks Simms received a 30 day jail sentence for orderly conduct. In Denton Melvin Douglas Good aged 19 was fined 25 dollars for illegality possessing beer in Denton.

National Education Week Observed at Denton School

Denton School invites parents and citizens to visit during American Education Week from November 6 to 12. A special visitation day is set for Thursday November 10, when student guides will accompany guests and answer questions about classrooms and the school.
