Three of five Board of Supervisors for Caroline Soil Conservation District seek re election in the June 21 1948 tri en nial election. Voters include farm owners and operators with polling at the County Agent's Denton office from 9 a m to 4 p m. The renominated members are W S Carroll Clayton Roe and Christian Nagel. Remaining two appointees are Harry H Rieck and Harold K Shults. All landholders lessees and tenants are eligible to vote.

ESPS Plans Mobile Radio System
The Eastern Shore Public Service Company of Maryland says the FCC has approved a system wide emergency two way radio. A 60 watt fixed Salisbury transmitter with a twelve 30 watt mobile set will be installed in line and service trucks. The plan aims to cover the territory from Betterton to Cape Charles with at least three 2500 watt stations and about eighty mobiles for rapid reporting and dispatch during storms and emergencies.

Tenant House Damaged By Flames Near Denton
A tenant house on the William Cropp farm behind the Quaker Church near West Denton burned Tuesday evening. Estimated damage about 2000 dollars. insurance only partly covering. The fire was found by a new tenant arriving with furniture. Firemen traced the fire to the meter box where current had been on since after 3 pm that day. Mr. Cropp said no one had lived in the house since Sunday.

Marydel Man Dies by Own Action in Maryland
James H. Scotten a 63 year old Marydel real estate dealer was found dead in his back yard with a self inflicted throat wound. Caroline county coroner Dr. Dawson O. George said death came from a self inflicted cut. Wife Florence Scotten said she found the body after sending him to the post office for stamps. He had been ill and is survived by wife a daughter Mrs Richard Johnson of Ridgewood New Jersey and a brother Harvey Scotten of Binghamton New York. Funeral services are set for Friday.

Legion Auxiliary To Sell Poppies
Mrs Rebecca Smith president of Caroline Unit No 29 announces the local Poppy Drive starts Friday May 21 as in the national drives. Poppies are handmade from red crepe paper by disabled veterans in hospital workrooms across forty states. Workers are paid for each poppy and materials are provided by the Legion Department. Over 25 million poppies are sold annually for more than 2 million dollars in proceeds used for rehabilitation and aid to needy veterans and families.

Lions Sponsor DDT Spray For Town Denton Lions Club project
The Lions Club of Denton will sponsor a town insect protection program this summer with a spraying machine on loan in late May and June. Experts from the Maryland University Extension Service will administer a full DDT spray dose at an estimated cost of $300. Donations will be welcomed as the club covers the total payment. A Denton spraying demo last summer showed the service’s effectiveness.
