Five Local Lads on Army Soccer Team in England
April 24, 1944 letter from Thomas Clayton Eveland reports five former Caroline National Guard members running a soccer club at their base somewhere in England. The squad, with a semi pro center forward and solid outside left, beat an English team four to two. Hillsboro’s Eveland is promoted from captain to major by the War Department this week.

Southern States cooperative plans a May 17 meeting at Bill's Place Federalsburg for the advisory board of the Federalsburg section and spouses. They will appoint committees to nominate successors for board members Herman Bradley and Harold Clark and to select candidates for the Women's Farm Home Advisory committee. The local election will elect a delegate and an alternate, with future district nomination and November 1 annual meeting for the district director election. Roof Blaze Quenched at Zeigler Home
Denton volunteer company extinguished a roof fire at Mr. F. D. Zeigler's home Tuesday afternoon around 4 o'clock. The flames were confined to the roof and caused several dollars in damage. Quick firemen response and family assistance saved the structure from destruction.

Train Hits Milk Trailer Truck In Greensboro
A northbound Freisnt train struck a milk trailer at Railroad Avenue crossing in Greensboro at 7 p.m. Tuesday, throwing the trailer onto the tracks and blocking the line until 3 a.m. Wednesday. The truck driver Joseph Roark and train crew were uninjured. 3,000 of 27,000 pounds of milk were lost. The trailer truck owned by Glennon Milk Service carried milk from Sadlersville to the Pet Milk plant in Greensboro. The crash halted traffic and required a wrecking crane from Delmar, Delaware to remove the vehicle.
