A Social Security Administration representative will be at the Denton Court House on Monday May 12 starting 11 00 a m to answer questions about Old Age and Survivors Insurance. The visit is to help area workers learn about the extended coverage under the new law and to file applications or obtain information.
George Dutton appointed manager of the Denton exchange by R A Dudderar of Chesapeake & Potomac Telephone Co. Dutton, formerly of Delmar Delaware, joined Salisbury plant in 1940 as a linesman and has led Chesapeake City and Cecilton exchanges. Active in civic work, he is a Chesapeake City Lions Club founder and former president. The Duttons have a 12 year old son Terry and will move to Denton when suitable housing is found.
A motion picture titled The Guiding Star will be shown at Greensboro Baptist Church next Sunday evening May 11 concluding Christian Home Week observances. In morning services Mrs H C Du Bois will speak and lead the service with other mothers assisting in honor of Mother's Day. All invited.
Captain Jesse L. Horsman Jr U S Army named project officer for the third annual Armed Forces Day observed May 17 in Easton. Unity Strength Freedom adopted as the observance slogan. Mayor Willis outlines committee with Peyton Horne James Bennett Frampton Carroll B J Delaney Clifford S Roger Phillip Carroll and other leaders. Armory ball free admission for servicemen in uniform and open house planned. WCBM to air programs. prayers and school activities slated. flags urged for display. Captain Horsman recently returned from Korea will join radio program Ole Large Salutes at 11 45 a m May 10.
Caroline County Chapter hosts two speakers for the May Izaak Walton League meeting at Caroline High School Room 23 in Denton on Wednesday May 14 at 8 00 p m Chair man John D Longfellow of the Maryland Game and Inland Fish Commission and Edwin M Barry Chief Inland Fish Management will discuss game problems Tal mage A R Strong local president urges members and interested persons to attend.
A heartfelt tribute to the mother whose loving smile lifts us from despondency. She darns our socks cooks our favorite dishes and fills our home with warmth and security. She devotes herself to keeping us well and happy with pride in our successes. We love her best.
The Caroline Choral Society performed in the Shoreham Hotel banquet room Washington D C Sunday evening before about 500 Rotary Convention members. It was their second May appearance with plans for a fourth show at Denton High School on May 12th and an earlier Federalsburg High School recital.
Maryland will continue three national 4-H programs Farm and Home Safety Health Improvement and Recreation Rural Arts under the Cooperative Extension Service. 1951 records show over 580000 participated in safety health efforts and 500000 in recreation and arts activities with donor awards from General Motors Kellogg and U S Rubber including trips to the National 4-H Club Congress in Chicago and cash or equipment prizes for county and state winners.
Du Pont Company will broadcast The Valley of the Swans on Cavalcade of America from Seaford May 27. Dr Raymond Grills announced the local program about Pieter Plockhoy and his 25 followers who settled near Lewes in 1662.
In Caroline County last Monday's primary, Democratic candidate Mahon ey polled 724 votes to Lasseer 680, a majority of 44, Kefauver earned 736 to 216 for an unin structed delegation, and Mahoney secured 84 state convention votes to 68 for Lasseer. Republicans chose Beall over Gore 527 to 226, Blunt with 143 votes, Beal 120 convention votes to 31 for Gore.
Caroline County BPW Club met on April 30 to elect officers and delegates for the Maryland Federation convention in Washington May 16 to 18. National federation president Judge Sarah Tilghman Hughes of Dallas will speak. five members will attend. New officers include President Louis Knotts and vice presidents Charlotte Abbott Rebecca Collison. secretary Bertha Miller and treasurer John Andrew.
Maryland health officials announce that over 195000 Marylanders were given free chest X rays in 1951 through state county city surveys and private units. The program aims at early tuberculosis detection with mobile units x raying tens of thousands in 23 counties and Baltimore City, plus private and association services.
The Rev. Dr. John E. French is invited to a ninth year as pastor of First Methodist Church, Denton with a salary increase. Peninsula Conference delegates H Earle Smith and J Lester Everngam will attend from the church. Plans for the Peninsula Conference Women’s Society of Christian Service meeting May 13, 1952 in Bethesda Salisbury are announced with Mrs. Arthur J. Jackson presiding and Dr J Leas Green leading the morning meditation.
The Greensboro Commissioners held their meeting on May 5 appointing Denny Taylor as Mayor M M Ginn as Secretary Treasurer and Clerk Frank Asilton as Chief of Police Francis Roberts as Public Works Supervisor and K Thomas Everngain as Attorney for the ensuing year The next regular meeting is the first Monday in June.
Showers are forecast Friday followed by a fair and warmer weekend. Period temperatures will run near normal for the season with normal afternoon highs around 70. Early morning lows vary from near 40 in western counties to the low mid 50s in southern and coastal counties.
Miss Virginia Kosinske of Salisbury reigned over the May Court at Salisbury State Teachers College May Day festivities on Friday May 2. The queen wore white gown with rose shadow print and carried Easter lilies. attendants included Miss Nancy Strohsacker of Berlin and campus leaders Miss Betty James of North East and Miss June Sherwood of Federalsburg. Additional honorees and princesses from STC represented each class in colorful gowns and accessories.
Denton Par ent-Teachers Association heard reports on Denton and Caroline high schools needing more cafeteria seating serving 200 to 400 daily, a farm shop, and expanded playgrounds. Conversion of a science room to an addition and enclosing land near the high school were discussed with an estimated 9000 dollar cost.
Merchants from Denton donated 380 to the fund for an ambulance resuscitator. The contribution followed an Appreciation Day held weekly on Fridays and the final Friday evening of the event, with the remaining funds aimed at purchasing the device for the Denton Volunteer Fire Co. Participating merchants included Fleetwood Hardware, Breeding & Nichols, Beck Chevrolet, The Clark Shop, Ben Franklin Stores, Stafford Market, Evera gam's Inc., Cooper Furniture Co., Willis and Covell, Townsend's, Caroline Home and Auto Supply, Nuttle Lumber, Denton Home Supply, Cohee's Store, G. Emory Gottwall, K. W. Short Jr., Denton Pharmacy, Lamison's Beauty Shop, Sam Mellits.
Wills probated in Denton April leave $500 to Pilgrim Holiness Church of Denton. Mrs Catherine P R Ford leaves $1,000 to Children’s Home Easton $900 to Home for Aged Women Easton and $500 to Salvation Army. $1,500 to Howard Dodds and $1,500 to John E Eveland. Eve lands daughters Madge and Pearl inherit rest of $55,000. Charles N High leaves $100 to Church of the Brethren Ridgely and remainder to relatives.
