Denton Boat Races Draw Spectators Amid Threatening Weather
Outboard races at Denton Bridge drew a large crowd despite threatening skies. Fast hydroplanes piloted by Alton Pierson of Queenstown and Stump Palmer of Queenstown wowed spectators. Winners included Vernon Snyder and others in Free For All and B Hyddro classes with top pilots from Baltimore Cambridge Easton St. Michaels Cordova and Queenstown.

Mrs G Arthur McDaniel of Federalsburg was reelected president of the Peninsula Girl Scout Council for two years at the annual meeting on April 27. Officers named include first vice president Mrs William Hart of Salisbury and second vice president Mrs John W Henderson of Seaford. Board members elected span Maryland Delaware and Virginia with delegates to the National Council meeting in St Louis. A memorial day service is planned for May 29 in Denton with Legion participation. Beauty Contest crowns Miss Denton at North Caroline High
Miss Frannie Good won Miss Denton 96 at North Caroline High School beating six rivals. Nine Little Miss Denton entrants paraded in party dresses and swimsuits with out-of-town judges selecting winners. Karen Shaffer was Little Miss Denton, and Miss Good will compete in the Miss Delmarva Pageant in Selbyville on June 17.

J Byers King of Denton selected from many applicants to join a 60 teacher, seven week summer Science Institute at Allegheny College. King, seven years at North Caroline High School, will study chemistry and physics while attending. The program offers graduate level work in six fields with two choices and provides a $525 stipend plus $105 per dependent up to four.
