Centreville Judge Thomas J Keating Rites Held
Funeral services for former Judge Thomas J Keating 79 known as the dean of Queen Annes County bar were held Sunday at St Pauls Episcopal Church Centreville. Interment followed at Chesapeake Field Cemetery. Keating died Thursday night at his Liberty Street home after a long illness. He served as Maryland insurance commissioner 1919 22 and as associate judge of the Second Judicial Circuit from 1922 to 1942. He was states attorney for Queen Annes County in 1912 a Democratic National Convention delegate in 1912 and a Centreville native. He married Leila Parker Bush in 1897 and is survived by his wife a son and two daughters and two grandsons.

Shore Girl Scout Leaders Training Meeting Slated
A Delmarva Peninsula conference for Girl Scout leaders will be held Saturday May 5 at Christ Church Parish House Cambridge. The program runs 10 to 4 with a flag ceremony, greetings by Mayor Tubman, discussions led by regional leaders, an outdoor program talk, civil defense chair, and a showing of the new film The Growing Years. Tea coffee and a box lunch are planned.

Miniature Golf Course to Open in Denton
The Denton Lions Club leased the southwest corner of 5th and Market from Sherwood Bros Inc of Baltimore for a miniature golf course. Grounds cleanup began last Saturday by club members. The course will be lit for evening play and opening date will be announced. Lions Club donated 100 toward Camp Todd building materials and members have invested hundreds of man hours, with the building near completion.

The 85th birthday of Alexander E Miller worthy patron of Caroline Chapter No. 62 Eastern Star was marked by an informal reception in the lodge room in Denton. Miller began 23 years as worthy patron after the chapter formed in 1923. His wife Ada D Miller was a charter member. Stewart Gale of Gale Electric attended. Miller moved from Elkton in 1914, opened a general store, and later joined Union Lodge A F and A M.

Disabled Veterans Welcome Chance To Make Buddy Poppies
Disabled veterans across the nation have been making Buddy Poppies for sale before Memorial Day. In Greensboro Commander Wilding of VFW Post 7937 said sales will run May 13 to 19, with poppies bearing government trademark and a “made by disabled veterans” label. The program, dating to 1922, offers occupational therapy, morale support, and wages from the VFW, aiding convalescent veterans’ recovery under VA guidance.
