On Monday at 3 00 p m April 28 inspecting officers arrived to assess Company H for federal recognition. Colonel E Leslie Medford of the Adjutant General’s office led the Maryland grounds building and men review then Major Howard Bone inspected for the federal government. The group included Colonel James Hamilton Lt Col Victor Gillespie Major Gratt Harkins and Master Sgts Chester Osborne and William Ruf. Now federally recognized the notice invites enlistment with pay starting the first drill night.

Peoples Bank Wins Bid for Ridgely Bonds 1947 Issue
The Peoples Bank of Denton Maryland was the successful bidder on the 40 million dollar Ridgely Refunding and Improvement Bonds of 1947. Bids were opened by Ridgely commissioners at the Baltimore law offices on April 29 1947 at 2 pm. The bonds income is tax free from all state and federal taxes.

Elgin Extends Tag Deadline to May 28
Elgin announced a May 28 deadline for new automobile and commercial tags after the state penitentiary said it cannot supply enough tags for at least fifteen days. Forms will be mailed May 7. sales tallied 275,763 in 27 days, up from last year’s pace. Full plates issued this year, two per vehicle, with prior years only corner clips sold.

X Ray Unit Visits Maryland Counties for School Examinations
The State Health Department brings an X ray unit in a tractor trailer to Maryland counties starting in Wi comico and then Caroline. High school students in Caroline will be X rayed this week with a schedule across Preston Lockerman Ridgely Federalsburg and Denton high schools from May 13 to May 19. A mass survey of rest of the county is planned for June.

Old Railroad Station Destroyed By Fire
The former Maryland Delaware and Virginia Railroad station at Hickman owned by William Croll of Hickman and director of the Peoples Bank of Denton was destroyed by a fire of undetermined origin Saturday night. Denton Bridgeville and Greenwood fire companies responded to the alarm. the three room frame building served as a warehouse.

The Denton town board election totals 596 votes with Douglas Fleetwood winning a three year term by 368 votes to succeed George W. Beck. Everett Townsend and George A. McDaniel trailed with 209 and 19 votes respectively. Tribbitt to become county treasurer July 1. In Greensboro two new commissioners, E. J. Vandegrift and G. Linden Duffey, gain seats with 94 and 85 votes.
