Editorial Notes From A Maryland State Briefs
Surveyor Buchanan Schley of the Baltimore Custom House was removed from office on Secretary Gage's orders. Despite the dismissal, Schley is held in esteem by many friends in the region, with several candidates named for the surveyorship including B G Stevens, a Stevens ally of Senator Wellington. Also noted: a Kent County grand jury indicts three men for attempting to buy votes, and Miss Mary Ellen Carroll marries in Paris. Willis may quit his bid for Handy's seat in Congress.
