Hughes Reappointed To The Legislative Council

Delegate Harry R. Hughes of Denton is reappointed to Maryland’s Legislative Council by the House Speaker. He has served on the Budget and Finance Committee and previously joined the council last year. Hughes, a Caroline County delegate, seeks the State Senate in the upcoming Democratic primary.

Tidewater Boat Show at Easton Airport in April

Easton Kiwanis Club sponsors a Tidewater Boat Show at Easton Airport on April 11 12 13. Comptroller J Millard Tawes will open the event at 7 p m April 11 but may depart by 7 30 p m to greet friends from the Eastern Shore. exhibitors from Maryland and Delaware are expected with attendees from multiple counties. Hangar space provided by Cities Service Oil Co and a Junior Auxiliary canteen will support hospital projects. Door prizes and Kiwanis charity proceeds fund community efforts.

Electrification Contest Announced by REA on Eastern Shore

Choptank Electric Cooperative announces $75 awards for two FFA members in districts 6 and 7 who submit the best electrical projects. Eligible contestants must reside in the service area and be regularly enrolled in FFA. Judging covers practical use, safety, affiliations, offices, and teacher recommendations.

Denton Golden Age Club Plans St Patrick Party

The Denton Golden Age Club will host a St Patrick’s Party on Monday March 24 at 7:30 pm in Fellowship Hall First Methodist Church. It is the March social for the senior citizens group formed last fall with Madge Jump as chair and a committee including Mrs. McDaniel Burns Brown Lord Coulby. Transportation is available under Henry Detwiler. The group also sends greetings to seniors unable to attend and stays in touch with shut-ins.

Brethren To Dedicate New Fellowship Hall

The Fellowship Hall will be dedicated Sunday March 23 at 2 30. Rev Jacob Replogle executive secretary of the Alumni Association and director of the development program of Bridgewater College Bridgewater Va will be the main speaker. His subject will be The Church Comes Alive. He was previously pastor of the First Church of the Brethren in Baltimore and spent years in this area. The public is invited.

Federalsburg Methodist Churches To Combine

Federalburg Methodist churches in Federalsburg will consolidate under a single pastor appointed by Bishop G Bromley Oxnam. A new minister will be chosen to serve both congregations, moving freely to improve service. An unofficial committee from both churches will plan arrangements with support from Easton district superintendent Dr J Leas Green.

Denton Art Students Honored In State Contest

Denton School of Art students have works selected to compete for Maryland Federation Penny Art Fund scholarships. Entries from Eastern Shore District include Dickie Frampton’s Portrait, Sarah Van Dyke’s Carriage House, and Carolyn Stivers’ Still Life. Honorable mentions go to Janie Crouse’s A Street Scene of Bank and Sarah Van Dyke’s Bank Building.

Plow Hitching Demonstration at King Farm in Goldsboro

A demonstration on proper hitching of plows behind tractors will be held at the David King farm in Goldsboro on Monday afternoon March 24 from 1:30 to 3:30. Demonstrator Guy Gienger of the University of Maryland Extension Service will show correct hitch techniques using pull meters to gauge adjustments for two three and four bottom plows.

Treasurer’s Office To Be Open March 22 and 29

The county treasurer’s office will be open on Saturdays March 22 and March 29 from 9 a m to 12 noon for those who cannot obtain automobile tags during the week.

Easter Vacation Adjusted for Caroline Schools

Caroline schools shorten Easter break by two days and add one day to end of year to recover time lost to a recent snow storm. State law requires 180 school days. three of five weather days must be made up. Schools close noon April 3 and reopen April 8 at 9 a.m. The vacation marks the end of the current school year with all schools closing June 13 unless further time is lost.
