More than 800 members attended the Choptank Electric Cooperative annual meeting at the National Guard Armory in Denton. Walter Harrison urged active member involvement, discussed power costs and Potomac River hydro development, and noted margins totaling over 1.19 million dollars. Directors were reelected and officers elected for the coming year.

National 4 H Club Week observed with a Caroline County event at the Caroline High School Auditorium Denton. Miss Charlotte Cannon presided as emcee and young models from Clark Shop presented Coming Attractions themed fashion segments for sub teen teen and adult 4 H members. The program featured numerous local girls from Preston Denton Hillsboro Greensboro Ridgely and Federalsburg with Everngain’s Denton supplying outfits. The reception followed with punch and cookies as the Dress Revue concluded and leaders organized the event.

The Advisory Committee for School Buildings met March 6 in the Board of Education office to review final drawings for North Carolina High School. Superintendent W. S. Receiving and transmitting equipment has been ordered and will be used during fires and emergencies replacing a radio truck monitoring station. A Denton man, T. Dukes Roe, sues Mail Pouch Tobacco Co seeking 25000 alleging he submitted the winning name Ali Harry Bhai for a thoroughbred racing colt prize. He claims the winner was chosen by a New York firm and the prizes went to Mrs. June Blacklock of San Francisco instead. Roe previously filed in Carroll County Circuit Court but the case was moved to federal court.

James K. Cooper of the iDenton Chamber says O. O. Stivers agreed to chair the Miss Denton Contest with Emory Dobson returning as last year’s chairman. Stivers and his wife have long supported the event. Meetings were to set plans with bids from potential sponsors urged for early publicity. The Denton contest is part of the Delmarva Chicken Festival Queen Contest to be held June 26 to 28 in Denton.
