Secretary Ezra Taft Benson has asked the National Agricultural Advisory Commission to study the wheat surplus and related problems. Maryland ASC Chair George B. Reeves notes a record 1.872 billion bushels on hand and a two year domestic plus export need at current disappearance rates. The national wheat allotment is cut to 55 million acres, a reduction of about 293 million from 1953, creating serious farmer operating challenges.
