G Raymond Brooks 64 former superintendent of Baptist City Missions for Baltimore and Pimlico Baptist Church died Thursday Feb 23 at his home 710 Beaverbrook Road Baltimore after a brief illness He was ordained in 1921 after a career as a druggist He led East New Market Hurlock and Pimlico Churches and as city missionary helped organize several in Baltimore Funeral services were at William J Tickner & Sons Funeral Home and burial was at Druid Ridge Cemetery He lived in Denton about two years His wife Beulah Clarke Brooks is sister of Denton resident James M Clarke

Funeral services were held at Nazarene Church West Denton for William Thom as Layton Jr 37 a carpenter who lived near Denton. Interment was in Denton Cemetery. Layton died when his car left Route 313 five feet deep ditch struck a hidden abutment near 11 p m last Friday. He is survived by parents wife Ottilie and two children plus six brothers and two sisters.

The 14 year old daughter of Mr and Mrs Wilmer Nagel wore a pale pink gown as John Tilghman, Federalsburg Chamber of Commerce vice president, placed the crown. Runner up were Miss Alice Moore and Miss Annette Carell. The event featured gifts from local merchants, with Gail Bee as mistress of ceremonies and judges Mrs Frank Anderson, Mrs James Shaw, and E. H. McGrath Jr. The flower girl was Miss Sharon Banning.

State 1957 Capital Budget Proposal Highlights Eight Million
The State proposes a 1957 capital budget of 8 338 067 funded by bond issues, plus 5 435 000 to supplement existing 13 000 000 for office buildings in Baltimore and Annapolis. Public Education receives 83 200 000 or 3 86 of the total, with major shares to the University of Maryland. Four departments Welfare Health Correction and Mental Hygiene together gain over 3 550 000. The plan covers 74 projects, most under 100 000, with 64 of the budget going to building construction. Estimated annual operating cost addition totals 737 045, split mainly to Health and Welfare. The report urges pay as you go financing for small items and limits borrowing to major projects and long lived assets. It also calls for full project cost disclosure and prior funding progress.
