Caroline County commissioners expect to cut the next fiscal year tax rate despite requests for more money. Health official Walter B. Johnson seeks approval to send a delegation for a county sanitation officer salary of 1500 plus 300 travel. Welfare board asks for 7500 more, raising the tax rate by five cents per 300 assessed. The welfare board spent over 18000 this year and seeks 26545.07 from county funds. new secretary Beulah Clopper started June 1. she previously worked with Montgomery County welfare.

Caroline Service News reports Levin W. Taylor Sr. of Greensboro announces his youngest son, Robert Levin Taylor III, is sworn in as a Midshipman at Annapolis. Taylor Jr. is a Greensboro High School graduate from 1941 who enlisted in the Navy in 1942 and served as an aerial photographer in North Africa before attending the Naval Academy Prep School and then the Naval Academy. His family ties include elder brother Robert Henry entering Annapolis and another brother Levin Williams Jr serving in the U S Navy Reserve at Bainbridge.

Pilot Safe As Plane Crashes Near Hore
A fighter plane from Dover Army Air Field crashed near Vernon last Friday after the pilot parachuted to safety. Harrington firemen found the burning wreckage on the Denton Harrington highway near Andrewville, leaving a crater eight feet deep. The pilot, with a lacerated ear and scratches, went to a nearby farmhouse to call Dover base. soldiers later arrived to secure the site.

Beetle Trans Placed Preparations Invasion Of Japanese Beetle
Preparations to combat a Japanese beetle invasion are under way in Caroline County led by Clement Noble of Federalsburg High School. Assistants Thomas Davis Norbert Drews Bertha Brauchle and Betty Guthrie set beetle traps in Denton Ridgey Greensboro and surrounding areas. The team will record casualties and tally progress at season end as beetles spread from the county’s upper region. Local scientists are using underground milky white disease to combat the pests and trap them for capture.
