Southern States Farmers Supply Co operative launches an experimental grain marketing service with Southern States Cooperative to help farmers sell wheat rye corn and soybeans. Howard H. Gordon directs the service with George Leitze as acting manager and War ner Naudain among participating store managers. The program, limited to selected stores and agencies this year, buys grain at competitive local prices and then markets it for farmers with any savings returned. losses possible as the program starts.

Harmony grist mill fire wipes out Brooks Nagel facility
Fire of undetermined origin destroyed the large grist and feed mill of Brooks C. Nagel at Fowling Creek near Harmony Tuesday morning. Joseph Mueller discovered the blaze around 10 30 a m. Thirty tons of feed worth eighty seven dollars a ton were stored in the mill. Five companies from Federalsburg Preston Easton and Hurlock fought the blaze, saving Alvin Weil's three story frame house as flames were fanned by the wind.

Forty Caroline County girls with Miss Bessie M Spafford and Mrs Francis M Rogers depart Monday for a five day 4-H Club outing at Camp Towcogh near Betterton. About a hundred girls from Caroline Kent and Queen Annes counties join under Miss Spafford Miss Schellinger and Miss Lewis guiding the group. Florence Mason of Salisbury Maryland University will teach art with older girls serving as counselors. Vespers and swimming are planned and visitors will be received Friday afternoon.

Judge J Owen Knotts of Denton was awarded a Doctor of Laws honoris causa at University of Maryland commencement on June 8. The citation praised his leadership on the Eastern Shore bench and his integrity, independence, and service to state and profession. Knotts, born May 28 1892 in Ridgely Maryland, studied at Washington and Lee and Maryland Law School, served on the Second Judicial Circuit since 1933, became chief judge in 1946, and has a wife Margaret S Smith and three children including James Knotts.

Caroline county will be represented at the Rural Women's Short Course at the University of Maryland College Park from Sunday to June 21 by 34 members of rural homemakers clubs and Miss Bessie M.
